Mr Karametos completed a fellowship in General Surgery based at the Austin hospital in 2007 and went on to an Upper Gastrointestinal fellowship at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. Following this he trained in Bariatric, Robotic and advanced Hernia surgery at various International and Australian centres. He commenced private & public practice in 2009.
Over the years, he has developed a strong interest in minimally invasive complex hernia surgery and founded the Melbourne Hernia Centre in 2018.
Mr Karametos is a firm believer in continuous learning and constantly updates his skill set. He provides new techniques for hernia repair including:
• Laparoscopic eTEP/ TAPP/TAR/Rives-Stoppa
• Robotic TAPP/eTEP/TAR hernia surgery
• Open Abdominal Wall Reconstruction
• Laparoscopic and robotic revisional repair/mesh removal.
• Repair with Biosynthetic absorbable mesh
• Minimally invasive Diastasis repair
With over 15 years experience in managing surgical patients, he provides a comprehensive and personalised service of the highest standard. In his spare time, he enjoys boating with his family on Port Phillip bay as an active member of the Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron.
