Dr Michael Stuart is an Australian trained adult and paediatric neurosurgeon who completed his medical degree at James Cook University with first class honours and an academic medal. He has special clinical and research interests in the treatment of adult and paediatric brain tumours, aneurysms and hydrocephalus. He is the principal investigator for ongoing clinical research in each of these areas with regular publications and provides peer review for leading neurosurgical journals.
Dr Stuart is pleased to provide care in all aspects of brain, spine and peripheral nerve surgery with a focus on the adoption of new technologies including robotics, nerve monitoring and endoscopy for minimally invasive targeted treatments.
Dr Stuart has a particular appreciation for the healthcare needs of the rural community having grown up in Mackay (North Queensland) and has a specific practice focus on the provision of rapid access telehealth services and outreach clinics for rural patients.
He provides services at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, Townsville University Hospital and Centre for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery.
Dr Stuart is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a Member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia and a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland.
