Mr Gary Foo is an upper gastrointestinal, bariatric, and general surgeon. He trained in Queensland and completed his general surgical training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Gary undertook post-fellowship experience in Hepatopancreaticobiliary Surgery (Mater Hospital, Brisbane) and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery (Austin Hospital, Melbourne). He completed his Master of Surgery at the University of Sydney in 2022. Gary is a Surgeon with the General, Trauma and Emergency Surgery Unit at Austin Hospital.



At the Mater Hospital in Brisbane Gary gained experience in minimally invasive liver, gallbladder, and pancreas surgery. He maintains a special interest in minimally invasive gallbladder surgery and bile duct exploration.

At the Austin Hospital Gary gained experience in minimally invasive and open Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric surgery. This included cancer surgery, anti reflux surgery and weight loss surgery. His Bariatric experience included the management of complex bariatric complications.

Gary has a keen interest in teaching and has been particularly involved with Fellowship Exam preparation.

Gary has had the opportunity to contribute to Surgery internationally by travelling to rural Sri Lanka to operate there and educate the local surgeons about minimally invasive gallbladder surgery.
