Associate Professor John Ireland is Sydney born and trained, and graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 1980. John is the 1980 Foundation Medallist in Medicine.
Dr John Ireland was awarded his Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgery in 1990, and Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 1994. He completed a Fellowship in Joint Replacement surgery at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, Norfolk, UK. Dr Ireland was also awarded AO and Zimmer travelling Fellowships in Joint Replacement surgery and Trauma.

Since returning to Australia, Dr Ireland has worked in the West of Sydney at Nepean Public Hospital, Penrith; Campbelltown Public Hospital; and Liverpool Public Hospital. John was formerly Head of the Orthopaedic Department at Liverpool and Chairman of the Whitlam Joint Replacement Centre based at Fairfield Hospital. Dr Ireland is a VMO at Campbelltown Private Hospital and an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics, at the Graduate school of Medicine, University of Wollongong.
His special areas of interest are in adult reconstructive and replacement surgery including joint replacement and revision surgery of the Hip, Knee, and Shoulder. John’s current experience includes over 4000 joint replacements using recognised and validated types of prostheses and including minimal invasive techniques.
