Associate Professor John Ireland is Sydney born and trained, and graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 1980. John is the 1980 Foundation Medallist in Medicine.
Associate Professor John Ireland has greater than 20 years of Clinical expertise and Specialist experience with Hip, Knee and Shoulder Surgery. He constantly engages in ongoing learning and is a medical educator at the Graduate School of Medicine, Wollongong University.
His special areas of interest are in adult reconstructive and replacement surgery including joint replacement and revision surgery of the Hip, Knee, and Shoulder. John’s current experience includes over 5000 joint replacements using recognised and validated types of prostheses and including minimal invasive techniques.
Associate Professor John Ireland provides a holistic approach with an outlook that ensures the best outcomes for patients that require joint replacements.
Assoc. Prof. Ireland utilises the latest Computer Navigation techniques for his patient’s Total Knee and Hip Replacements. “This technology improves accuracy which is particularly beneficial in younger more active patients.” Where possible, Assoc. Prof. Ireland utilises the anterior approach for Total Hip Replacements. “The patient benefits for an anterior approach hip replacement include the potential advantages of an earlier return to activities and work.”
