Dr Alkhater completed his medical degree in 2008 graduating from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He then worked in various hospitals in New Zealand to complete further advanced training in Respiratory Medicine. After working as a consultant in New Zealand, he went to Thoraxklinik in Germany to do an observership in advanced bronchoscopy procedures then came to Brisbane to do a fellowship in advanced bronchoscopy procedures at Royal Brisbane and Women Hospital.
After completing the fellowship, he is now working at Gold Coast University Hospital, Premier Specialist Clinic, Mackay Private Hospital and now starting at Gold Coast Private Hospital. He is a member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, and the European Respiratory Society.
Dr Mahmoud Alkhater has a particular clinical interest in:
• Diagnosis of lung and pleural malignancy including bronchoscopy, EBUS TBNA and radial EBUS
• Bronchoscopic treatment of lung cancer including debulking for symptom control and cryotherapy for in situ carcinoma
• Management of pulmonary nodules
• Medical and interventional management of airway disease including asthma thermoplasty and endobronchial valve lung volume reduction
• Diagnosis and management of Interstitial Lung Disease including transbronchial cryopbiopsy
• Occupational lung disease
• Bronchiectasis
• Chronic cough
