Dr Meon Lamont is a general ophthalmologist with a special interest in oculoplastic surgery and macular degeneration and is Director of The Eye Care Clinic.
He specialises in oculoplastic surgery, including excision and reconstruction of benign and malignant skin lesions, ptosis surgery, blepharoplasty and surgical management of epiphora. He performs intravitreal injections for a range of ocular conditions including wet macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and vein occlusion. He also treats chalazia and minor oculoplastic procedures at the practice.
He is a cataract surgeon with 22 years of experience, and performs phacoemulsification and intraocular lens insertion at The Tweed Day Surgery in Boyd Street, Tweed Heads. This is also where most of his surgery is done, including pterygium excision with conjunctival autograft, iStent insertion for glaucoma management, and a range of oculoplastic procedures.
He takes time to explain and discuss the diagnosis and management with his patients to ensure engagement and improve the patient experience. He is very patient and treats everyone with kindness and respect.
He completed his medical training in Pretoria, South Africa and then moved to England where he completed his specialist training in Ophthalmology. During this period, he did Oculoplastic fellowships in Salisbury as well as the renowned Moorefields Eye Hospital in London. He also completed a fellowship in Reconstructive and Cosmetic surgery through the Royal College of Surgeons.
He has published research in several clinical ophthalmology journals and presented papers at international Ophthalmology and Oculoplastic conferences.
