Dr Sinnatamby Sujeevan is a psychiatrist who graduated in Medicine from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He started his postgraduate training in Sri Lanka while working as a lecturer in Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. He continued his psychiatry training in Australia and was elected a Fellow of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2006.
His main research interest was in psychosis. He completed his PhD through the University of Melbourne, studying novel mechanisms of action for the antipsychotic medication, clozapine.
Dr Sujeevan has worked in public mental health and private practice. In the public mental health system, he has worked in acute and continuing care settings, treating youth and adult patients for over 10 years.
His passions include languages, culture and classical art forms. He is fluent in English, Tamil and Sinhala.
Dr Sujeevan believes in the importance of physical health including exercise, family and social connections, self-compassion and acceptance for maintaining optimal mental health.
