Dr Bibhusal Thapa

Dr Bibhusal Thapa enjoys thoracic surgery and expresses his passion towards it being his primary drive to his career. He has worked together among many other cardio-thoracic surgeons during his training at Austin Health, Barwon Health and Northern Health and carries on the torch of patient focused care.

His early medical academic years proclaims distinction from Manipal College of Medical Sciences, Nepal in MBBS than Master of General Surgery in 2007 from Tribhuvan University, Nepal following through fellowship in thoracic Surgery in 2014 from Pakistan. He also holds PhD in thoracic oncology from University of Melbourne in 2017.

Dr Thapa also has led as a head of department of thoracic unit at Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre, Kathmandu with exemplary leadership following which he was awarded fellowship award by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeon in 2010.

He has multiple publications, is involved as an active member of the quality and help at Northern Health and mentorship programmes of residents and medical students.

His day-to-day operations in thoracic surgery involves:

• Video assisted minimally invasive thoracoscopic lobectomy & segmentectomy

• Thoracoscopic mediastinal tumour excision and thymectomy

• Bullous lung disease (Lung Volume Reduction Surgery)

• Pleural diseases including mesothelioma

• Recurrent pneumothorax/ pleurectomy

• Mediastinoscopy-biopsy

• Chest wall deformities repair for pectus excavatum / carinatum
