Dr Chris Bell is a highly experienced, Queensland-trained orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in the treatment of shoulder, knee and sports conditions, consulting and operating regularly at Sunnybank Private Hospital.
Dr Bell is also an accomplished surgical leader within Queensland Health and the Australian Army. He is committed to working with patients from all walks of life to restore pain-free movement, which he believes is fundamental to health and wellbeing.
Dr Bell obtained his specialist qualifications in 2014. He the undertook subspecialist training in shoulder, knee, and sports injuries. He completed an AOA-accredited Fellowship in Brisbane before completing several visitations across the United States and France. For the last 12 years he has worked as a Staff Specialist in the QEII Orthopaedic Department, treating thousands of patients with a wide variety of acute, chronic, and emergency orthopaedic conditions.
At QEII, Dr Bell worked in various leadership positions including Director of Orthopaedics (2015-2021), Director of Training (2017-2019), Director Surgical Services (2019-2021), and Director Medical Services (2021-2025). During this time, he obtained a Masters of Health Administration and Associate Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators.
Dr Bell also has served for 15 years in the Australian Army. Leadership positions included Senior Medical Officer 11th Brigade and Orthopaedic Lead 3rd Health Support Battalion. He deployed to Ukraine and Iraq, working as senior orthopaedic surgeon with the Dutch and US military forces respectively.
In his spare time, Dr Bell enjoys spending time with his wife and young family. His favourite activities include mountain biking, surfing, strength and conditioning. He is also a proud supporter of the Brisbane Lions AFL and Brisbane Heat cricket teams.
Dr Bell is committed to providing the highest quality, evidence-based care. He works with his patients to ensure they understand their condition and provides clear guidance on the best course of treatment, whether that be non-operative or operative. If surgery is required, Dr Bell utilises contemporary techniques including robotic-assisted knee surgery, arthroscopic shoulder and knee reconstruction, and accelerated rehabilitation protocols.
