Dr Hal Rice (MBBS, FRANZCR) obtained his medical degree at the University of Queensland in 1992 followed by medical and surgical residency at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Hal completed his specialist training in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital from 1996 to 2000 before completing advanced specialist fellowship training in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology at the Mt Sinai Medical Center in New York City in 2001 and 2002.
Since returning to the Gold Coast in late 2002 Hal cofounded Qscan Radiology Clinics which has grown to be one of the largest comprehensive Radiology practices in Australia. Hal also established the minimally invasive endovascular Interventional Neuroradiology Service at the Gold Coast Hospital which is now regarded as one of the premier sites in Australia for the endovascular treatment of brain aneurysms and other life threatening vascular neurological conditions including acute major vessel stroke. Hal has worked as a Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiologist at the Gold Coast University Hospital since 2002 and is the Director of the Interventional Neuroradiology service. He has also previously served as the Deputy Director of the Medical Imaging department at Gold Coast Hospital
Hal has major academic interests in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, Head and Neck Imaging, Sports Medicine Imaging, Musculoskeletal Imaging, non-invasive pain management and all fields of advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Hal is an accomplished speaker frequently lecturing both locally and internationally. He is actively involved in teaching medical students, allied health professionals, radiology trainees and other medical specialists. Hal is a Neuroradiology Examiner for the RANZCR College Specialist Examinations. Hal was host of the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN) 13th world congress held on the Gold Coast in November 2015.
Hal is an Associate Professor at Griffith University Medical School and Bond University School of Medicine and an Ambassador for the Gold Coast Business events and Tourism Board and the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct. Hal is actively involved with the College of Radiologists currently as a member of the Diagnostic Economic Committee (DEC), Continuing Professional Development Committee (CPD), Quality Use of Diagnostic Imaging Committee (QUDI) and the Queensland Radiologist Branch Committee. He has previously served as the RANZCR Federal Treasurer and a member of the RANZCR Executive Committee and Board member of the Federal College Council.
