Dr Laetitia de Villiers

Dr Laetitia de Villiers (MBChB, FRANZCR) completed her specialist training in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. She then undertook an advanced specialist fellowship in General Interventional Radiology, including hepatobiliary, urological and vascular Interventions, at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2006/2007, followed by an advanced specialist fellowship in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology at the Mt Sinai Medical Center in New York City in 2007 and 2008.

Laetitia obtained her initial medical degree at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa and then completed her medical and surgical residency at Tygerberg Hospital in Capetown. She has worked in the United Kingdom and previously spent more than two years working as a Medical Superintendent and sole General Practitioner in outback rural Queensland.

Since returning to Queensland after her fellowship in New York, Laetitia initially practiced as a Specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Interventional and Diagnostic Neuroradiology and general Interventional Radiology. She is now a Staff Specialist at the Gold Coast University Hospital in Southport, practicing in Interventional and Diagnostic Neuroradiology. The service is now regarded as one of the premier sites in Australia for the endovascular treatment of life-threatening brain aneurysms and acute ischaemic stroke. She also has an additional interest in and practices in general and Hepatobiliary Interventional Radiology.

Laetitia has major academic interests in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, Head and Neck Imaging, Hepatobiliary Imaging and Interventions and pain management as well as Computed Tomography and Ultrasound guided interventions and all fields of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. She is an accomplished speaker lecturing locally and internationally and is involved in teaching medical students, allied health professionals, radiology trainees as well as other medical specialists.

Laetitia is an Associate Professor at Griffith University Medical School and Bond University School of Medicine and an Ambassador for the Gold Coast Business events and Tourism Board and the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct. Laetitia was host of the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN) 13th world congress held locally on the Gold Coast in November 2015.
