Dr Mohammed Khaleel is an Australian-trained general surgeon with a comprehensive surgical background and a strong interest in advances in minimally invasive techniques. His passion for innovation led him to complete a Master’s degree in Minimally Invasive Surgery, encompassing both laparoscopic and robotically assisted procedures.
Dr Khaleel’s practice primarily focuses on three key areas:
Surgical Management of Gallbladder Disease (including gallbladder and bile duct stones, as well as polyps)
Diagnostic Endoscopy (Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy)
Hernia Repair Surgery (Laparoscopic, Robotic, and Open approaches)
Through his work at John Fawkner Private Hospital and Melbourne Private Hospital, Dr Khaleel also provides a broad range of general surgical services to meet community needs, accepting referrals for:
Acute General Surgery (e.g. appendicitis, bowel obstruction, cholecystitis)
Small Bowel Pathology
Anorectal Conditions
Hand Surgery (Carpal Tunnel Release)
Subcutaneous Lesions (Lipomas and Cysts)
Dr Khaleel completed his surgical training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) via Western Health. Following this, he undertook three advanced fellowships. His first fellowship was at Ballarat Base Hospital, where he developed an interest in upper gastrointestinal surgery. He then pursued a second fellowship as a Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Fellow at The Alfred, followed by a final fellowship in the HPB and Liver Transplant Unit at Austin Hospital. These experiences equipped him with the expertise to manage complex gallbladder procedures, including laparoscopic trans-cystic bile duct exploration for bile duct stones during cholecystectomy.
In 2022, Dr Khaleel obtained his master’s degree in Minimally Invasive Surgery from the University of Adelaide, reinforcing his dedication to advancing surgical innovation and enhancing patient care. He was also awarded the Rural Surgery Fellowship for Provincial Surgeons Grant by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Dr Khaleel aims to drive transformative change in surgery through innovative techniques that minimise complications, reduce infection rates, shorten hospital stays, and promote faster recovery. His extensive experience across tertiary, regional, and rural health settings, including in South Australia, has broadened his clinical expertise and strengthened his ability to deliver high-quality surgical care in diverse healthcare environments.
