Dr Serge Geara is a consultant Neurologist with a myriad of interests including research in neuroimmunology and fellowships in motor neuron disease and mitochondrial disease and neurogenetics. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Sydney in 2015. Dr Geara is currently a combined fellow and consultant. He is completing his fellowship in Mitochondrial diseases and Genetics at Neuroscience research Australia under the Tutelage of Professor Carolyn Sue. His clinical training is complemented by active involvement in academic research, with a particular focus on multiple sclerosis, autoimmune encephalitis, and MOG-antibody associated disease (MOGAD). He is currently pursuing (due to complete soon) a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Translational Neuroimmunology, where his work contributes to improving diagnostics and treatment strategies for inflammatory and demyelinating disorders.
His undergraduate education was a degree in Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Neuroscience from the American University of Beirut.
In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr Geara is a dedicated contributor to the medical community. He is the acting treasurer and an active board member of Australian Lebanese Medical Association (ALMA), NSW Chapter, supporting health education and professional networking across communities.
Outside of medicine, Dr Geara is an avid basketball player and fan, a lover of jazz and classical music, and a passionate language learner, speaking five languages fluently. He enjoys combining travel with professional development, regularly attending medical conferences and seminars.
