Dr Borire’s scope of practice covers all general neurological presentations including headache, stroke, epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders. His subspecialty interest is in nerve and muscle disorders such as nerve injury and entrapment, neuropathy, myopathy and neurodegenerative disease. Dr Borire has expertise in neurophysiological procedures such as nerve conduction studies, needle electromyography, electroencephalography, as well as neuromuscular ultrasound. He also performs a range of therapeutic procedures including nerve blocks and botulinum toxin injections for migraine.
Dr Borire completed his specialist training in Neurology at St George and Prince of Wales Hospitals, with sub-specialisation in Neurophysiology. He completed his PhD at the UNSW, which was focused on the use of novel techniques such as high- resolution ultrasonography for the evaluation of peripheral nerve disorders.
Dr Borire’s research aims to develop novel biomarkers for the early diagnosis and prevention of peripheral neuropathies, especially in metabolic disorders like diabetes and chronic kidney disease. His research has been awarded the Australian Postgraduate Award scholarship, as well as the Jim McLeod Young Investigator Award of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists Annual meeting in 2015. In 2016, Dr Borire won the Tow Coast Association Research Early Career Awards (Open Junior Division) from the Prince of Wales Hospital, and in 2017 the Golseth Young Investigator Award, presented by the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM).
Dr Borire is a Conjoint Lecturer in medicine at UNSW and is involved with undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. He has published numerous scientific articles and presents regularly at local and international conferences in the field of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr Borire also holds a public post at Liverpool Hospital. He is a specialist medical reservist and holds the rank of Squadron Leader in The Royal Australian Air Force.
