Dr Alan Whelan is an interventional and general cardiologist. Alan graduated from Guy’s Hospital, London in 1991 and trained in Cardiology in the UK and Perth. He completed his Post graduate studies in interventional cardiology at the University of Otago, New Zealand.

Alan was appointed as an Interventional Cardiologist at Fremantle Hospital in 2001 and was Head of Department in 2014. He was previously the clinical lead for coronary intervention at Fiona Stanley Hospital. Alan has been integral in the establishment of emergency angioplasty services for the treatment of myocardial infarction at Fremantle and SJOG Murdoch Hospitals. His interests are in Interventional cardiology, including angioplasty, stent implantation, intravascular ultrasound, peripheral interventions, renal denervation and pacemaker insertion. He is particularly interested in the management of acute coronary syndromes. He is also an investigator in many pivotal trials and recent experience includes intervention for structural heart disease involving innovative procedures for valvular heart disease.
