Dr Aliasghar Aminazad

Dr Aminazad is a respiratory and sleep specialist and consultant physician. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and a member of American Thoracic Society (ATS), The Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) and Australasian Sleep Association (ASA).

The majority of his basic physician training was at Austin Health, where he passed his fellowship exam and was awarded as the most Outstanding Registrar for Intern and HMO teaching in 2008. He then completed one year of advanced training in ICU at Monash Medical Centre.

Dr Aminazad completed advanced training in the Respiratory field in 2011 and then joined Eastern Heath as a Respiratory and Sleep Specialist Physician in 2012. His main interests are in thoracic ultrasound and bedside management of pleural diseases. He started the pleural service at Eastern Health in 2011, advanced it in 2012 and has continued his interest in pleural disease management and respiratory physiology and athlete assessment since then.

Management of sleep disorders and more complex patients with respiratory failure became Dr Aminazad’s main focus while completing his sleep fellowship at Box Hill hospital in 2012. He was also involved in the development of NIV services and protocols in Eastern Health in 2012.

Dr Aminazad established the three locations of Respiratory Sleep Disorder Centre (RSDC) in 2016, with the aim of providing instant and comprehensive diagnostic and clinical evaluation for patients. 

Dr Aminazad also practices in procedural respiratory medicine including bronchoscopies, specifically pleural diseases management including pneumothoraces, pleural effusions and haemorrhage. He is trained to perform ultrasound guided procedures in respiratory medicine. He also has an interest in lung cancer screening, management of pulmonary nodules and masses, with easy access to Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) and CT guided biopsies both in private and public hospitals.

Dr Aminazad speaks fluent Farsi and Persian.
