Alison Turner

Psychologist

Alison Turner is a registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. (AAPI) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Alison has completed a Bachelor of Science with Psychology Honours and a Bachelor of Business at the University of Southern Queensland.

Alison welcomes clients from all backgrounds and of all ages. She works predominantly in private practice and has experience working with a multitude of concerns including anxiety, depression, mood and personality disorders, trauma, grief, self-harm, suicidal ideation, relationship issues, behaviour management, gender identity and emotional dysregulation.

Alison has a particular interest in assisting children, adolescents and young adults with their mental health concerns. She has experience in conducting psychometric assessment and diagnosis of conditions such as intellectual impairment, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and learning difficulties/disorders and treatment thereafter.

Alison is also passionate about women’s mental health and wellbeing including adjusting to life with menses, transitioning through midlife career and family changes and navigating the subtle yet progressive changes imposed by perimenopause. She is a foundational member of All About Her – The Centre for Menopause (Western Australia) – a resource hub and healthcare squad for Australian women whose lives are impacted by menopause.

Alison draws on lived experience as well as professional knowledge to provide a safe and inviting space for clients to feel comfortable to just be. She encourages a collaborative relationship in the therapy room. She recognises that each client is unique and the expert of their own life and that her role is to guide and assist clients with achieving their goals and living their best life. Alison’s treatment approach reflects a holistic lens using a range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Techniques (Tapping), and play therapy. She believes it is important that clients be allowed to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
