Dr Alister Ramachandran is a highly qualified and experienced Pain Medicine Specialist and Anaesthetist, with dual fellowships in pain medicine from both Australia (FFPMANZCA) and Ireland (FFPMCAI), as well as international certification in interventional pain procedures (FIPP, USA). He is the Director of Pain Medicine at Westmead Hospital and PainMed, a multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to the management of persistent and complex pain.
With over two decades of experience, Dr Ramachandran is recognised for his expertise in managing chronic pain conditions through evidence-based interventions such as neuromodulation (including spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation), radiofrequency procedures, musculoskeletal medicine, and minimally invasive spine interventions. His subspecialty interests include neuropathic pain, post-surgical pain syndromes, cancer-related pain, and pelvic pain.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Ramachandran is actively involved in the education and training of future specialists. He is an examiner and supervisor with the Faculty of Pain Medicine (ANZCA) and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Sydney University. He regularly contributes to research and has published book chapters and journal articles in Pain Medicine.
