Dr Alys Saylor is a plastic surgeon who grew up in North Queensland and completed her medical degree at UQ. Her primary interest is in breast surgery and she performs the entire spectrum of operations within this niche of plastic surgery, both aesthetic and reconstructive.
In 2003, during her third year of residency at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Dr Saylor was accepted onto the general surgery training program and moved back to her home town of Townsville for a year of advanced training in general surgery. This training exposed her to a wide variety of plastic surgery procedures and she was inspired to pursue this area of focus as a career.
After training in Melbourne and Brisbane, Dr Saylor became a Fellow in 2007, completing a final year of training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2008. During 2009 she spent time in London, New York and Rome where she met and learnt from some of the world’s leading plastic surgeons before returning to Brisbane to work as a surgeon focussing on the breast at the Mater Hospital. Dr Saylor has been working in private practice for over 10 years.
Dr Saylor is highly experienced in breast surgery, particularly in reconstruction after breast cancer, breast reduction, breast enlargement and breast surgery associated with gender reassignment. She believes the challenge with any form of breast surgery is to restore an aesthetic which in turn restores a patient’s physical sense of self and wellbeing, transforming their emotional and psychological health.
