Dr Andy Evans is a Senior Staff Specialist with Specialist Registration in General and Geriatric Medicine with a particular interest in Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease. He works at the Northern Beaches Hospital within the Department of Neurology. He graduated in Medicine with Honours from Imperial College (St Mary’s Hospital Medical School) in London in 1994. He was the inaugural Stroke Association Clinical Lecturer in Stroke Medicine at King’s College Hospital from 1999-2002 where his research interests were in acute stroke treatment, stroke units, ethnicity in stroke and stroke secondary prevention. After a year as a Registrar on the Stroke Unit at Manly Hospital in 2005, he returned to the Australia in 2009 to work at Westmead and Manly Hospitals.
He was excited to transfer from Manly to the new Northern Beaches Hospital at its opening in 2018, where he continues those interests. He consults in the Northern Beaches Hospital TIA & Stroke Clinic, providing rapid and comprehensive investigation for transient ischaemic attack, in addition to his inpatient work and chairing the weekly Stroke Case Conference. He has an interest in medical education, is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney, chairs the NBH General Clinical Training Committee and examines for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He is a member of the Agency for Clinical Innovation Stroke and Rehabilitation Executives. He is also Deputy Chair of the
Medical Staff Council. He lives locally with his family and is an active member of the Northern Beaches community as President of the Manly Roos Junior Rugby Club and an Assistant Age Manager with the Manly Life Saving Club Nippers.
