Dr Barnes is a specialist adult psychiatrist with wide ranging expertise and interest in diverse fields of psychiatry. After gaining Fellowship in 2018 with an Advanced Training Certificate in Forensic Psychiatry, he began his career working within the Prison / Criminal Justice system, before more recently returning to public hospital and private mental health care settings.
Dr Barnes continues to hold several public sector positions, primarily at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (supporting oncology and palliative care patients throughout their illness journeys), whilst also maintaining more limited roles at The Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health (Forensicare) and the Mental Health Tribunal.
Dr Barnes employs an individualised, bio-psychotherapeutic framework to support and manage presentations of all degrees of complexity, and is a passionate advocate for all of his patients.
