Dr Tony White is an interventional cardiologist and a scientist. His medical degree, physician and cardiology training were at the University of Melbourne and Royal Melbourne Hospital, with interventional cardiology training at St Vincent’s hospital, Melbourne.
He has particular interest in the assessment and management of myocardial infarction, angina and coronary artery disease, but has expertise in a variety of general cardiac disorders including cardiac failure, hypertensive heart disease, hypercholesterolaemia, atrial fibrillation and valvular heart disease.
Tony has a hybrid clinician-scientist career, and his clinical work is combined with scientific research in the exciting area of stem cells and attempts at regeneration of cardiac tissue. His PhD, at The Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, investigated factors associated with coronary plaque instability. Subsequently, he spent a three year post-doctoral fellowship (2007-1010) studying cardiac regeneration research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre, Los Angeles. He is a current holder of a National Health & Medical Research Council (NH&MRC) fellowship and grant.
Tony has an appointment as an interventional cardiologist at MonashHeart, and is lead investigator on an NHMRC grant at Monash University.
