Mr Ben Keong is an upper gastrointestinal, bariatric
and general surgeon. After completing his general surgical training at the Austin Hospital, Ben undertook post-fellowship upper GI training via the Australia and New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (ANZGOSA). During his training at Box Hill and St George Hospitals he gained experience in management of benign and malignant gastric, oesophageal and pancreatic conditions.
At St George Hospital, which performs the highest volume of bariatric procedures in Australia and is the
only accredited Bariatric Centre of Excellence in the country, he gained invaluable experience in all aspects of bariatric surgery, including management of its potentially-serious complications. Ben is experienced in elective and emergency general surgery, and is GESA-accredited for endoscopy. He is well-trained in laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery, and will endeavour to utilise this approach when appropriate.
Ben has a keen interest in teaching and is involved
with medical student and registrar teaching programs at both the Austin, and Eastern Health.
