Dr Meads studied medicine at the University of Auckland. He completed his orthopaedic surgical training in 1999, gaining a fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgery. Dr Meads undertook a further 18 months of advanced training at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney Hospital and St Lukes Hospital. He subsequently worked as a Consultant Hand Surgeon at Sydney and St Lukes Hospitals, with private rooms in Macquarie Street for 10 years. He also started working in Newcastle in late 2002.

He works at the Hand Surgery Centre to see private, workers compensation, third party and DVA patients. He continues as a Senior VMO in the John Hunter Hospital. His current appointments are at the John Hunter Hospital, Belmont Hospital, Newcastle Private Hospital and Lingard Private Hospital.

Dr Meads set up the Hand Surgery Centre in 2005 in the Newcastle Private Specialist Centre. This was set up in association with the Hand Therapy Centre. This practice has been a centre focused exclusively on treating conditions of the hand and wrist since this time. The Hand Surgery Centre and Hand Therapy Centre are dedicated to try and provide the best standard of care possible.
