Plastic/Reconstructive Surgery

Dr Mackay’s private practice is based at Brisbane Private Hospital Specialist Centre.

His undergraduate study was at the University of Queensland where he completed degrees in science, medicine and surgery.  Following graduation, he was posted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for his internship and basic surgical training.  Dr Mackay initially commenced advanced surgical training in general surgery before being selected for training in plastic and reconstructive surgery.  At the completion of his training, he was made a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dr Mackay travelled to Adelaide to undertake a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.  During this fellowship, he also worked with senior surgeons in their private practice to gain the broadest possible exposure to advanced surgical techniques. His fellowship involved large volumes of hand trauma and complex microsurgical reconstructions.

Dr Mackay remains committed to education and training and regularly teaches junior doctors and registrars.  He is a board member of the Australian Hand Surgery Society.

Dr Mackay is a visiting consultant surgeon at the Royal Brisbane where he treats patients with a wide variety of hand surgery and reconstructive problems.

He is regularly involved with the multidisciplinary management of complex problems in association with surgeons from other areas of expertise such as orthopaedics.  He is a member of the Hand Clinic at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
