Dr Christos Apostolou is an experienced Specialist Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon. He holds expertise in Upper gastrointestinal, Pancreatic and liver oncology surgery, Gallbladder and anti-reflux surgery, Laparoscopic hernia surgery, advanced endoscopy and ERCP, Bariatric surgery, Robotic surgery and open approaches.
Christos undertook his surgical training in Cape Town with admission to the South African College of Surgeons in 2003, subsequently completing 5 years of fellowships in Upper GI/HPB/Trauma Surgery. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2012, after emigrating with his family to Australia.
He holds a Masters in Surgery from the University of Cape Town and the Certificate of Surgical Gastroenterology from the S. African College, maintaining a strong interest in research with numerous and ongoing peer review publications. Christos is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at UNSW, Senior Clinical Lecturer at Macquarie University, Senior Clinical Lecturer with the Australian National University. Currently holds the position of clinical lead in Upper GI Surgery at the Sydney Adventist Hospital, previously acting as department head in Upper GI Surgery in Bankstown Hospital and served as the GSA/RACS hospital training supervisor on the NSW committee. He has served on the board of the ANZHPBA and a member of ANZGOSA, ANZMOSS, GSA and the AMA.
Christos is an accredited robotic surgeon and mentor in Upper GI Surgery across both systems currently in use in Australia (da Vinci & Versius), having commenced his robotic “journey” at the Yonsei University, Severance Hospital, Seoul South Korea in 2015. He regularly consults and operates at Sydney Adventist and Northern Beaches Hospitals and is additionally accredited at Norwest and Macquarie University Hospitals.
