Mr David Lam is a consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon based in Melbourne, with particular expertise in pelvic floor disorders.
Mr Lam completed his medical degree with honours at The University of Melbourne in 2007 and qualified as a General Surgeon in 2016. He subsequently completed four years of Colorectal Surgery training; three in Melbourne (St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Northern Hospital) and one at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, United Kingdom. Whilst in Oxford, he worked in the internationally-renowned Pelvic Floor Unit and was exposed to a high volume of prolapse surgery and sacral nerve stimulation. He also became a member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland. Locally, he is a provisional member of the Australasian Colorectal Surgical Society.
David is one of a few surgeons in Melbourne with dedicated interest in pelvic floor disorders including faecal incontinence, obstructed defaecation and rectal prolapse.
He provides a comprehensive anorectal physiology diagnostic service for his patients. He is well-versed in the latest abdominal and perineal approaches for prolapse repair, as well as sacral nerve stimulation for faecal incontinence.
Through his affiliation with The Women's, he works in close collaboration with urogynaecologists for patients with multi-compartmental prolapse.
David also has GESA certification to perform colonoscopy.
