Dr David Shum

Dr Shum graduated from the University of Queensland and trained at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Greenslopes Private Hospital. As a Consultant Physician and Geriatrician he focusses on Geriatric Medicine and Rehabilitation, consulting at Sunnybank Private Hospital at the highly regarded Rehabilitation Unit.

Dr Shum has a particular clinical interest in the diagnosis and management of dementia and perioperative assessment in older persons. He is also interested in the promotion of healthy ageing through lifestyle advice and has conducted research in the management of frailty in older persons.
During his training, he has developed a keen interest in the maintenance of dignity in older hospitalized patients and considers good ongoing communication with caregivers and family to be an essential part of his practice. In addition to English, he is also fluent in Cantonese.

Dr Shum’s scope of practice also includes telehealth consults to patients in residential care facilities and in rural and remote communities around Queensland and Australia.
