Dr Douglas Shaw is athyroid, head and neck, and skin cancer surgeon who recently joined Northern Beaches Hospital. He delivers individualised expert surgical care to patients.
He completed a medical degree at University of Sydney in 2007 followed by a Master of Surgery in 2010 investigating the role of sentinel lymph node biopsy in high-risk non melanoma skin cancers. He completed General Surgery training through Royal Prince Alfred Hospital network and subsequently completed fellowships in Surgical Oncology at Prince of Wales Hospital and in Head and Neck Surgery at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.
He also has an appointment to Macquarie University Hospital and participates in the Endocrine multidisciplinary team meetings at both sites. He offers comprehensive assessment for thyroid pathology, and minimally invasive parathyroid surgery.
He deals with all skin and soft tissue tumour pathology. He treats simple lipomas but also developed expertise dealing with rare soft tissue tumours and sarcomas.
Doug treats all skin cancers, and uses local flap reconstructive techniques to achieve good aesthetic outcomes. He keeps up to date with the rapid advances in therapies for melanoma, and performs sentinel lymph node biopsy procedures. He has a particular clinical interest in treating patients with advanced skin cancers of the head and neck, and also treats patients with oral and salivary gland cancers.
Doug’s wife is a Breast Surgeon in the Northern Beaches and they enjoy living in the community. Doug enjoys family time with his boys doing outdoor activities like mountain bike riding, surfing, and soccer
