Dr Abi Thevakumar

Dr Abi Thevakumar is one of the few female Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the Frenchs Forest area. She was the Staff Specialist in Manly and Mona Vale since 2013 and now continues her role in the new Northern Beaches Hospital. She combines up-to-date knowledge, in-depth experience of over 15 years and genuine caring and understanding of the local community.

Born and raised in Malaysia, Dr. Abi pursued her medical degree at The University of The West Indies (Trinidad). After qualifying in 2000, she began her long career in medicine and obstetrics and gynaecology in the UK. She met her Aussie husband and moved to Sydney in 2010, where she started her own family and lives locally.

Dr. Abi’s training was in some of the busiest and diverse hospitals in the UK and Sydney, namely Guys and St. Thomas’ (London), The John Radcliffe (Oxford) and St. George Hospital (Kogarah). She is confident and compassionate in caring for both high and normal risk pregnancies, and women with a variety of gynaecological issues.

Dr. Abi has a special interest in pre-pregnancy counselling to ensure you are at your optimum health before embarking on a pregnancy. She is also passionate about ensuring couples are debriefed appropriately when their previous birth experience did not go to plan and prepare them for a better future experience.

As a busy mum of 3 children and having had challenging pregnancies herself, she can empathise with women embarking on their own journeys and ensures individualised care that’s right for you and your family.
