Dr Coughlan is an orthopaedic surgeon with both local and international training. He specialises in sports surgery (including shoulder, knee, hamstring and ankle), arthroplasty of the shoulder, hip and knee, as well as trauma, and many other orthopaedic conditions.
Adam has worked across many regional and metropolitan hospitals in both Queensland and the Northern Territory. He currently holds a public appointment at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, and the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital.
Adam strives to stay abreast of new and emerging techniques, as well as tried and tested techniques with strong evidence, in order to help his patients achieve their goals.
Adam was raised in Cairns, Far North Queensland, then moved to Rockhampton to complete a Bachelor degree in Biomedical Science, prior to completing a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Queensland in 2008. He then undertook further specialist orthopaedic training in Queensland, obtaining a fellowship from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, and Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2021.
Following the completion of his local orthopaedic training, Adam completed 18 months of further subspecialist training in the area of orthopaedic sports surgery at the Clinique du Sport and Chirurgie du Sport clinic in Paris, France. Here he gained additional experience in sports pathologies of the shoulder, hamstrings, knee and ankle.
