Dr Ashwin Rajan

Dr Ashwin Rajan is a respiratory and sleep medicine physician, and fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).

Dr Rajan undertook his specialist training in respiratory and sleep medicine at Peninsula Health, Austin Health and the Victorian Respiratory Support Service (VRSS). He has a public appointment at Eastern Health and is an honorary consultant at Austin Health.

Dr Rajan has extensive experience in the holistic assessment and management of a broad range of respiratory and sleep conditions. These include severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, pleural disease, lung cancer, and complex respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders. 

He is also competent in providing care for patients with complex ventilatory disease having completed his training through the VRSS. Dr Rajan is trained in pulmonary interventional procedures such as standard bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). These are essential in the assessment of pulmonary nodules and diagnosis of lung cancer.

He has special interests in airways disease (asthma) and sleep disordered breathing having published articles in these fields. He is also proficient in managing all general respiratory and sleep conditions. 

Dr Rajan is a member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), European Respiratory Society (ERS), American Thoracic Society (ATS) and Australian Sleep Association (ASA).

Dr Rajan understands the importance of empowering patients on their journey to better health. He adopts a caring and patient-centred approach and collaborates with other health professionals to deliver multi-disciplinary care. He is available to see patients at John Fawkner Private Hospital.
