Dr David Liu graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1993 with 1st class honours and completed his orthopaedic training in Sydney with the Australian Orthopaedic Association program in 2002.
He subsequently completed fellowships in lower limb arthroplasty and reconstruction at the Nepean Centre for Joint Reconstruction Sydney, Toronto Western Hospital Canada and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital United Kingdom in 2003-2004.
Dr Liu specialises in surgery of the hip and knee, with particular interest in computer navigation, robotic surgery, knee balancing and use of artificial intelligence in optimising patient outcomes. He is involved in both hip and knee prostheses international design teams. He has a special interest in teaching and training and has hosted both internationally and locally trained fellows and surgeon visitations instructing on hip and knee arthroplasty surgery. Dr Liu regularly lectures both locally and internationally. He is active in research including research students under his supervision and numerous publications in peer- reviewed journals.
Dr Liu is currently Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Gold Coast Private Hospital and Honorary Adjunct Associate Professor at Bond University. Dr Liu is Secretary Arthroplasty Society of Australia, past Scientific Secretary Queensland branch Australian Orthopaedic Association, Vice-Chair Knee Arthroplasty Subspecialty Committee SICOT, Leadership Group Asia Pacific Arthroplasty Society, Editorial Board Knee Surgery and Related Research and Editorial Board Arthroplasty.
