Dr Dibbendhu Khanra

Cardiology, Electrophysiology

Dr Khanra completed cardiology training in India in 2018 and started as an Assistant Professor in Cardiology at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Dr Khanra moved to the United Kingdom (UK) in 2020 to gain experience in complex electrophysiology (EP) interventions and was fortunate to be trained at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, the largest‑volume cardiac ablation centre in Europe, where there was exposure to cutting‑edge technology and high‑quality research. Thereafter, Dr Khanra undertook further training in advanced EP and cardio‑genetics at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, the cardiac transplant centre catering to the West Midlands. Dr Khanra worked as a consultant cardiologist in the UK from 2023 in Stoke‑on‑Trent and Chester before relocating to Australia to take up a permanent Staff Specialist position at The Canberra Hospital (TCH) in 2025.

Within a year of practice in Canberra, Dr Khanra has performed more than 300 electrophysiology (EP) procedures to reduce the public‑hospital waitlist, particularly through the introduction of sedation‑led EP procedures, including cryo‑ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF). Dr Khanra has been awarded FRACP and also holds an academic position at the Australian National University (ANU). Dr Khanra has onboarded TCH to the first funded multinational registry, PACEVALUE, along with multiple other high‑profile funded research studies, including INDEX AF, SMART AF and EQUAL AF. Dr Khanra is deeply engaged in teaching and training medical students, basic physician trainees and cardiology advanced trainees.

Dr Khanra has more than a decade of experience in general cardiology and has performed over 2,000 electrophysiology procedures to date across three continents. Dr Khanra proctors a number of electrophysiology workshops in India each year and is one of the very few electrophysiologists to hold both EP and device accreditations from the British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS), the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) and the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE). Dr Khanra’s research in VT ablations using ripple map have been widely acclaimed in the EP.
