Dr Gary Foo is a bariatric, upper gastrointestinal, and general surgeon. Gary trained in Queensland, completing his general surgical training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in 2018. He has since gained fellowship experience in Hepatopancreaticobiliary Surgery (Mater Hospital, Brisbane) and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery (Austin Hospital, Melbourne). He graduated with a Master of Surgery at the University of Sydney in 2022. Gary is currently a Surgeon with the General and Trauma, Emergency Surgery (GaTES) Unit at Austin Hospital where he has been practicing since 2020.
Gary completed his undergraduate qualification of Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland majoring in Biomedical Science and Anatomy in 2003. He then went on to complete postgraduate medical training also at the University of Queensland.
Gary began general surgical training in 2013 based out of the Royal Brisbane Hospital and also spent time training at Townsville Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital. In 2018 he gained his fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery. He went on to gain post fellowship subspecialty experience in HPB, Upper GI and Bariatric surgery.
Gary has a keen interest in teaching and is the Junior doctor supervisor for his unit at Austin.
Gary has had the opportunity to contribute to Surgery internationally by travelling to rural Sri Lanka to operate there and educate the local surgeons about minimally invasive gallbladder surgery
