Dr Geraldine Ooi

Dr Geraldine Ooi is a specialist surgeon in Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) and Bariatric surgery. She also performs a wide range of general surgery procedures. In particular, laparoscopic hernia repair, cholecystectomy, benign and malignant UGI surgery, including hiatus hernia repair and minimally invasive oesophagectomy and gastrectomy. 

Dr Geraldine specialises in the treatment of oesophageal and gastric cancer, hiatal hernias and reflux disease, morbid obesity, achalasia and oesophageal dysmotility, using mainly minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic approaches. 

She completed a PhD in 2019, focusing on bariatric surgery, fatty liver disease and metabolic syndrome. She subsequently underwent two years of sub-specialty upper gastrointestinal surgery training through the highly competitive AANZGOSA program in Perth and Melbourne, working in high volume bariatric and oesophagogastric cancer units. Subsequently, Dr Geraldine underwent further training in Surgical Oncology in the world-renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, with a focus on robotic surgery and oesophagogastric cancer. She consults and operates at Holmesglen Private Hospital.
