Dr Jordan Jones is an Australian-trained neurosurgeon with expertise in both cranial and spinal surgery. He has appointments at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Melbourne Private Hospital, with subspecialty interests in skull base surgery, brain tumours, cerebrovascular surgery and minimally invasive spinal surgery.
Dr Jones graduated as valedictorian of his medical school class in 2010. He subsequently completed comprehensive training in brain and spinal neurosurgery across Melbourne and Brisbane, gaining experience at leading centres including The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Royal Children’s Hospital, the Alfred Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, and The Royal Brisbane Hospital. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2024.
Following his Australian training, he undertook a further fellowship focusing on skull base and cerebrovascular neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA, consistently ranked the world’s leading hospital for neurosurgery. He also undertook a dedicated neuro-oncology fellowship through the Brain Cancer Centre in Melbourne.
Dr Jones has a strong academic and research background. He completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Melbourne in 2023, focusing on circulating biomarkers in brain tumours. His work has led to numerous scientific publications and invitations to present at both national and international conferences. His research achievements have been recognised with prestigious awards, including the AANS/CNS Neuro-Oncology Award (2022)—the first time it was awarded to a non–North American researcher—and the Peter Leech Memorial Prize for the best scientific manuscript by a neurosurgical trainee.
He serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, is a Clinical Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne, Department of Surgery, and remains actively engaged in neurosurgical research through the University of Melbourne and the Brain Cancer Centre. He is also a key contributor to several major international research consortiums.
Dr Jones is an active member of professional organisations including the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA), the Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS).
