Knee, foot & ankle specialist
Dr Kaihan Yao is an Australian-trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery, as well as Knee Replacements and Knee Scopes.
Dr Yao completed his medical training at Monash University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery with Honours. He then furthered his postgraduate education and achieved a Diploma in Surgical Anatomy at the University of Melbourne and a Certificate in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Newcastle.
During his specialist orthopaedic training, Dr Yao worked across major tertiary centres and regional hospitals in Victoria. He then obtained Fellowships from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Australian Orthopaedic Association.
Dr Yao underwent sub-specialty training and completed a Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery with emphasis on minimally invasive foot surgery including bunion and lesser toe deformity corrections, Total Ankle Replacements and correction of complex foot and ankle deformity. He also completed a Fellowship in Lower Limb Surgery and is experienced in Robotic-assisted Knee Replacements, Arthroscopic Knee Surgeries and the management of Orthopaedic Trauma.
Dr Yao is passionate about medical education and contributes to the training of junior doctors through his public appointments at Peninsula Health and Eastern Health. He has published multiple research papers in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented at several international conferences. In addition, Dr Yao has co-authored a book chapter in the Chapman’s Comprehensive Orthopaedic Surgery textbook.
