Prof Kane Vellar

Prof Kane Vellar is a Consultant Psychiatrist who provides thoughtful, thorough, and compassionate care for adults experiencing mental health difficulties.

He offers comprehensive assessment, clear diagnostic formulation, and practical treatment plans tailored to each individual’s circumstances.

Prof Vellar understands that seeking psychiatric care can feel daunting. He aims to create a respectful and supportive environment where patients feel heard and understood. He provides care for a broad range of conditions and supports in-patient admission to the Darwin Clinic or Darwin Private Hospital when a higher level of care is clinically indicated. Prof Vellar works closely with General Practitioners and other health professionals to ensure coordinated, shared care and continuity of treatment.

Alongside public and private clinical practice, he holds a professorial role within the new CDU Menzies School of Medicine Faculty and is the current Chair of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Committee for Examinations. These roles reflect his commitment to maintaining high professional standards and delivering safe, effective evidence-based psychiatric care.
