Radiation Oncology

A/Prof Kirsty Stuart is a Senior Staff Specialist, Radiation Oncologist at the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute and Department of Radiation Oncology, Westmead Hospital, and at Cancer Care Northern Beaches, specialising in breast cancer management. She is passionate about her patients’ care, guiding them through breast cancer radiation treatment for best outcomes, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Kirsty gained her medical degree from The University of New South Wales. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists: Faculty of Radiation Oncology, and a member of ANZ Breast Cancer Trials Group, Australasian Society for Breast Disease, Trans-Tasmanian Radiation Oncology Group (TROG) and the Oncoplastic Breast Consortium (International).

Kirsty is Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney and is actively involved with teaching Radiation Oncology trainees and medical students from both The University of Sydney and Western Sydney University. Her PhD on DCIS and Early Breast Cancer Management through The University of Sydney was completed in 2014. Stemming from this research, in 2011 she was awarded the illustrious American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) Scientific Abstract Award for Research.

Kirsty is on the Australasian Breast Interest Group Faculty of Radiation Oncology (BIG-FRO; RANZCR) Executive Committee (since 2015) and, from 2016, has held the position of a Cochrane Breast Cancer Group Editor (International Panel). Cochrane is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that produces trusted health information in the form of systematic reviews that are free from commercial sponsorship and other conflicts of interest; this work is recognised as representing an international gold standard for high quality, trusted information.

She is involved in research locally and with TROG, Westmead Institute of Medical Research, and in conjunction with several universities. A/Prof Stuart has been awarded >$230,000 in research funding as Chief Investigator-A and has over 35 peer-reviewed publications in breast cancer. She actively collaborates in the updating breast cancer management guidelines with Cancer Australia, eviQ, the Cancer Institute NSW, BIG-FRO, and is on the Royal College of Pathologists of Australia National Breast Cancer Review Panel. Additionally, from 2013 she has been on the Clinical Advisory Board and Research Advisory Committee for the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute.

She has held the roles Radiation Physics Expert and Examiner for RANZCR-FRO (2007-2016), Radiation Oncology Curriculum Advisory Committee Editorial Team (2005-09) and Western Sydney Local Health District Director of Training for Radiation Oncology Registrars (2014-2016, 2023-2024).
