Dr Guiney is a Structural and Coronary Interventional Cardiologist practicing at The Canberra Hospital, National Capital Private Hospital and consults at Core Cardiology in Canberra. Originally from Sydney, where he trained at The Prince of Wales Hospital and earned a Master of Medicine by Research at the University of New South Wales. Dr Guiney then completed prestigious fellowships in complex coronary intervention and structural heart interventions at both King’s College Hospital in London and The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

Dr Guiney is an expert in the management of valvular heart disease and performs procedures including transcatheter aortic valve intervention (TAVI) and mitral transcatheter edge to edge repair (TEER). He also performs percutaneous PFO/ASD occlusion and left atrial appendage occlusion.

In addition to this, Dr Guiney’s interests include complex coronary revascularisation techniques such as calcium modification and CTO PCI with a strong focus on intravascular imaging to optimise his patient outcomes. He uses advanced invasive coronary physiology techniques to assess patients for coronary artery spasm and microvascular dysfunction, an often overlooked and undertreated condition, predominantly affecting women.

Dr Guiney is an active researcher in the field of interventional cardiology and continues to publish and present his collaborative efforts at national and international cardiology conferences.
