Dr Matthew Cheng is an Australian trained specialist Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon based in Brisbane, Queensland, operating at Sunnybank Private Hospital.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). With a particular interest in cosmetic surgery, Dr Cheng has completed an aesthetic surgery fellowship endorsed by the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) in Sydney.
He is recognized for his expertise in cosmetic breast surgery, body contouring (including liposuction and fat grafting), and facial aesthetics (including blepharoplasty and facelifts), offering a comprehensive range of treatments tailored to each patient's needs.
In addition to his private practice, Dr Cheng holds a position as a Staff Specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he contributes to both clinical care and surgical education, mentoring, and actively supervising medical students, resident medical officers, and training registrars.
Dr Cheng’s medical education began at the University of Queensland, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with First Class Honours. He was awarded the prestigious Harold Plant Memorial Prize by the Australian Medical Association.
Dr Cheng completed his internship and residency at Princess Alexandra Hospital before undertaking extensive training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, including two clinical research fellowships and a five-year accredited Surgical Education and Training program. During his training he was awarded the national Clinical Exam Prize by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS).
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr Cheng is deeply committed to research. He holds a PhD from the Queensland University of Technology, where he investigated breast tissue engineering – research that has been featured on the ABC and in other major media outlets. His contributions to the field of breast surgery are pioneering, and he remains dedicated to advancing surgical techniques and patient outcomes.
His leadership roles have included serving as the national trainee representative on the Australian Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and as Chair of the Australian Medical Association Queensland’s Doctor in Training Committee.
