Dr Nick Davies

Urology

Dr Davies completed a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Tasmania in 2010. He worked at the Royal Hobart Hospital for five years before moving to Queensland for formal surgical training in 2016.

During his training, Dr Davies worked in major tertiary hospitals throughout Queensland and New South Wales.  In 2017, he was the recipient of the Frank Gardiner Award for the highest mark on the Urology Surgical Sciences Examination for Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Davies has worked as a Fellow at the busy Gold Coast University Hospital – gaining valuable skills and experience performing major open and laparoscopic operations, specialising in urological oncology. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in January 2021. He returned home to Tasmania in 2021 to take up a Consultant Urologist position at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

Dr Davies is a strong advocate for minimally invasive surgery, which is associated with faster recovery and less post-operative pain. He is proud to perform robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomies for prostate cancer using the da Vinci surgical robot.

Dr Davies has published peer-reviewed articles and case reports in major urology journals.  He also remains committed to medical education and regularly teaches medical students and junior doctors.

Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his young family, gardening, playing hockey and watching footy.

Dr Davies is a member of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand.  Dr Davies is accepting private patients at Hobart Private Hospital.
