Dr Rajitha Gunaratne

Dr. Gunaratne completed his medical education in University of Otago, New Zealand in 2011 before embarking on his journey as an orthopaedic surgeon. After relocating to Perth, Western Australia, he undertook extensive specialist training, gaining broad and valuable experience across all aspects of orthopaedic care.

During his internship, Dr Gunaratne met his wife, and together they are now proud parents to three young boys, an experience that continues to shape his compassionate and family‑centred approach to patient care.

Dr Gunaratne completed his orthopaedic fellowship examinations in 2022. He has a strong interest in robotic and technology‑assisted surgery, using advanced surgical innovation to enhance precision and optimise patient outcomes. He has also undertaken further specialised training in direct anterior approach hip replacement surgery and holds a PhD in robotic surgery, reflecting his commitment to evidence‑based, cutting‑edge practice.

A former state‑level soccer player, Dr Gunaratne has a deep appreciation for the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle. This personal background fuels his passion for sports and orthopaedic surgery, with a focus on safely, efficiently, and confidently helping patients and athletes return to the activities they love.

Dr Gunaratne practises at POSC, where he and the team are dedicated to guiding patients through their orthopaedic journey with expertise, compassion, and a genuine commitment to long‑term wellbeing.
