Dr Robert (Bob) Gerber

Bob Gerber is a Consultant Cardiologist and Co-director of Nepean CardioVascular Centre. He graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School which is part of King’s College London in 2000. He is accredited in Cardiology with the sub speciality of Interventional Cardiology and Devices.

He also is an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney where he teaches Medical students and performs research as well as teaching and has published over 100 peer reviewed manuscripts.

His sub-specialty training in Interventional Cardiology was through an intense 3 year fellowship programme at Imperial College London (Hammersmith and St Mary’s Hospitals) and the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy, where he was supervised and instructed by Dr Antonio Colombo. He is an expert in the field of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) guided stent implantation and has published in this field and joined faculty of several international congresses.

Other academic interests include antiplatelet therapy and the long term outcomes of PCI in multivessel coronary artery disease and the influence of gender and age on PCI outcomes. He was part of a select few that undertook the MB PhD programme after being awarded the University of London Carpenter prize for graduating first in the Physiology and subsequently graduated with both academic and clinical qualifications. He was awarded the Young Investigator Prize in 1999 at the ISSHT Kobe, Japan. Bob is an expert in the field of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) guided stent implantation and is also trained in implanting pacemakers as well as coronary stents.

He has performed over 5000 cardiac procedures over a 25 year career in Cardiology and General Internal Medicine in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom where he maintains and hold accreditation. He has consistently demonstrated excellent cardiac care and outcomes as demonstrated by independent audit of his practice from both the Victorian Outcomes Registry (VCOR) in Australia and the UK National Institute of Clinical Outcomes Research (NICOR).

He has expertise in hypertension and heart failure as well as heart rhythm disturbances and dyslipidaemia. He is able to perform Renal Denervation (RDN), which is a novel method for treating hypertension. He joined the department of Cardiology at Nepean Public Hospital as a Senior Staff Specialist in Aug 2022. Bob is integral to participating and delivering acute cardiac care with 5 other Staff Specialists in a 24/7 heart attack rosta. He is a team player and works within the Cardiac Unit to deliver complex PCI with Rotablation, Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) PCI as well as and  a member of European Association of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (EAPCI).

He moved permanently to Australia with his family and loves his new home and community of friends where he enjoys cycling, trail-running, bush walking and time with the family.
