Dr Shawn Kelly

Dr. Shawn Kelly is an interventional cardiologist practicing general and interventional cardiology.

Shawn commenced his undergraduate studies at Santa Clara University in both engineering and biology, ultimately acquiring a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He completed medical school at the University of Newcastle Australia and fulfilled resident years locally with the Hunter Area Health Service prior to relocating overseas. 

He completed an internal medicine residency and fellowships in cardiology, interventional cardiology, and Transaortic valve replacement at Academic programs in the United States. He was awarded Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Fellow Society of Cardiovascular Interventions following completion of multiple US Board Exams. During his US training, he became board certified in echocardiography, and proficiency in valvular/ cardiac CT evaluations and nuclear myocardial perfusion study interpretation.

Throughout his clinical training, Shawn remained active as a clinical educator holding Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor positions with several medical schools. His academic interests and research projects have included- renal preservation techniques to limit contrast induced nephropathy, microvascular dysfunction, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiogenic shock.

Shawn commenced his career as a staff specialist in regional Montana, where he was instrumental in implementing a percutaneous ventricular assist device supported PCI program, Intravascular imaging with IVUS and OCT, and served as the director of the Transaortic valve replacement program.

Following several productive years as an interventional cardiologist, his family decided to return to Australia.

He successfully completed the Overseas Specialty Training Program in 2025 and acquired the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians at that time.  He currently retains a VMO position with Tamworth Local Area Health District.

Shawn is willing to participate in the care of patients with general cardiology and interventional needs.
