Dr Sheital Chand

Dr Chand is an experienced gastroenterologist and hepatologist, with strong ties to the outer east region of Maroondah, Knox and Yarra Ranges.

She attended both primary and secondary school in the area, and completed physician training at Eastern Health. Notably, she received the Ramesh Nagappan Award for Academic Achievement in the RACP Clinical Examination.

Dr Chand completed advanced training in both General Medicine and Gastroenterology- obtaining FRACP in 2023. To further her interest in liver disease, she undertook hepatology fellowships at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (Perth), including the West Australian Liver Transplant Service, and at King’s College Hospital (London, UK), including the prestigious Department of Liver Transplantation and Liver ITU.

She is an accomplished researcher and academic, with involvement in clinical trials for novel anti-viral and liver cancer therapies, presentation at local and international conferences, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. She has co-authored the textbook chapter- “Chapter 4 Intensive Care, The Liver in Systemic Disease: A Clinician’s Guide to Abnormal Liver Tests” (W Bernal and S Chand).

Dr Chand is also a skilled endoscopist. She is a GESA recertified colonoscopist (2026) with an adenoma detection rate well above the national standard. This is the most important quality indicator for gastroenterologists, and shows that Dr Chand employs ample time and thorough inspection for polyps when performing screening colonoscopy.

She has a holistic approach to patient care, providing comprehensive management plans and empowering patients via disease education.

She is proud to be a member of the outer east community.
