Dr Timothy Unsworth‑Smith completed his orthopaedic specialist training in Perth after graduating with Honours from the University of Western Australia. He subsequently undertook extensive sub‑specialty training in Foot and Ankle surgery across Queensland and New South Wales.
Dr Unsworth‑Smith completed a Foot and Ankle Fellowship in Brisbane with Dr Michael Lutz and Dr Ben Forster, followed by a second Foot and Ankle Fellowship with Dr Simon Platt at the Gold Coast University Hospital. He then completed the Australian Orthopaedic Association‑recognised Foot and Ankle Fellowship in Sydney with Dr Andrew Wines.
Across these three fellowships, Dr Unsworth‑Smith participated in multiple national visitations, working with and observing several renowned foot and ankle surgeons throughout Queensland and New South Wales. He was also offered further Foot and Ankle fellowships in Spain and Canada, which he was unfortunately unable to attend due to COVID‑related travel restrictions.
In addition to his sub‑specialty expertise in Foot and Ankle surgery and trauma, Dr Unsworth‑Smith has a strong interest in Knee Arthroplasty, including Total Knee Replacement surgery. With five years of dedicated training in knee replacement surgery, he finds it particularly rewarding to help patients regain mobility and improve their quality of life following surgery.
Dr Unsworth‑Smith is experienced in all aspects of Foot and Ankle surgery and Knee Replacement surgery. Alongside his clinical practice, he has completed several research projects that have been published internationally and presented at both national and international conferences. He remains committed to ongoing learning and research, with the aim of continually improving patient care and the overall medical experience.
Dr Unsworth‑Smith has a strong personal interest in sport and physical fitness, having competed at both state and national levels in swimming, athletics, rugby, powerlifting, and natural bodybuilding. He continues to maintain an active lifestyle and is passionate about promoting health, fitness, and good wellbeing, leading by example for his patients.
Outside of medicine, Dr Unsworth‑Smith enjoys travel and learning about different cultures. He has volunteered in regions throughout South America, including Peru, Colombia, and Argentina, and is an experienced Spanish speaker.
