After Dr Ashaia was awarded his primary degree in medicine and surgery. He immediately pursued a career in orthopaedics through a Master of Orthopaedic Surgery. Since then, he has worked in orthopaedics in public hospitals across NSW and QLD. He has gained further subspecialised experience in the Royal North Shore Hospital Hand Unit and Westmead Children ‘s Hospital.
Because of his deep passion for research and learning, Dr Ashaia has completed a Master of Clinical Epidemiology degree from Newcastle University (with Distinction) which enriched his knowledge in research methodology.
After finishing his orthopaedic training program in Sydney, NSW, Dr Ashaia was awarded a Fellowship of The Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS). He followed this training with two Australian fellowships in Foot and Ankle Surgery, Lower Limb Reconstruction, Deformity Correction and Hip, Knee and Ankle Arthroplasty. These fellowships have provided in depth experience and skills for managing complex orthopaedic lower limbs presentations through state of art techniques such as minimal invasive surgery, pre operative 3D modelling and planning, and computer/robotic-assisted surgery.
With strong commitment to training of junior doctors, Dr Ashaia holds a position of Conjoint Lecturer in the School of Medicine at Western Sydney University working with medical students. In hospitals Dr Ashaia frequently provides individualised and small group training and mentoring to junior doctors and other health professionals.
