Dr Yohan Abeysekera

Dr Yohan Abeysekera is an orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty expertise in spinal disorders. He manages a comprehensive range of spinal conditions using both conventional open and advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques. His practice spans the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions, focusing on disc herniation, nerve compression, radiculopathy, degenerative and arthritic spine disease, and complex spinal deformities including scoliosis, kyphosis, and spondylolisthesis. He also provides care for traumatic spinal injuries.

Beyond spinal surgery, Dr Abeysekera maintains an active interest in adult hip and knee arthroplasty and general orthopaedic trauma.

He obtained his MBBS in 2007 in Sri Lanka and completed orthopaedic training in Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. His first spinal fellowship was in the UK under the International Surgical Trainee Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, followed by a second fellowship at the State Spinal and Scoliosis Unit at Royal Perth Hospital, Western Australia.

Dr Abeysekera was awarded the Fellowship of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (FEBOT) in 2018, the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS Tr & Orth) in 2022, and the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2025, when he also became a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He is a current member of the Spine Society of Australia.
